ROB MACHADO FINDS THE TREE OF LIFE IN POST-TSUNAMI SENDAI (via blog.gessato)

ROB MACHADO FINDS THE TREE OF LIFE IN POST-TSUNAMI SENDAI

Posted by  on Sep 5, 2013 in VIDEO
Iconic surfer Rob Machado has traveled the world for more than half his life. And during that time, he’s crossed paths with countless individuals who share a love for surfing and a passion for the arts. In his new series called Through The Lens, we meet these individuals and follow Rob as he connects with the people who’ve inspired him along the way.
In his second Through the Lens episode, Rob visits Sendai, Japan, one of the hardest places hit by the 2011 earthquake/tsunami. He meets artist/surfer Takashi Kobayashi, who shows him the area’s surrounding waves and a tree-house project particularly close to his heart. The results, as you’ll see in this short film directed by Tyler Manson, are nothing short of inspiring.
To support tsunami relief efforts and Takashi Kobayashi’s incredible work, Hurley has created the Through The Lens Tee, featuring photography by Rob Machado. The tee is available exclusively online at and 100 percent of proceeds go to Treehouse Creations Co LTD to build more tree-houses in tsunami-affected areas.

Guy Given Second Trip with Family After Sad Vacation Photos Go Viral (via petapixel.com)

  • Some months ago, 34-year-old telecom worker Kevin Blandford of Louisville, Kentucky, won a free vacation to Puerto Rico from his job. His daughter was too young to make the trip at the time, so she and his wife stayed home. Blandford decided to document the entire trip with a series of sad-faced portraits showing that he wasn’t having a single second of fun without his family. Those photos went viral after he shared them online, racking upmillions of views.
They were so popular, in fact, that the hotel in Puerto Rico and an ad agency noticed and decided to pay for a second identical trip for Blandford’s entire family. Blandford took the opportunity to recreate each one of his original sad photos as a happy family portrait.

The photos show Blandford revisiting each of the original tourist spots and the Wyndham Rio Mar where he stayed.

These before-and-after photos may be an even bigger hit than the original set. They’ve already been viewed over 1.6 million times in just the past 3 days.

P.S. In case you’re wondering, Blandford was able to take a friend on the first trip who served as his dedicated photographer for the series.

Time-Lapse Shows Rescued Puppy Growing Into Adulthood on a Treadmill (Via petapixel.com)

Published on May 7, 2015 by Michael Zhang

When filmmaker Dave Meinert rescued a sick four-week old Great Dane puppy named Pegasus from an careless breeder, he wasn’t expecting her to live very long. After all, it had a pigment deficiency defect that leads to deafness and blindness, and most of its siblings were either dead or deformed. Meinert decided he would care for Pegasus the best he could and document her life every day for as long as she lived.
The short video above is a time-lapse showing Pegasus growing from a puppy into adulthood while doing her daily exercises on a treadmill with a camera mounted nearby. Many months into the project, Pegasus is still alive and well. “I still don’t know how long she is going to live, but right now is pretty great,” Meinert says.

Who knows, one of these paintings could soon be yours…

For those of you who don't know much about me I'm also an artist. I prefer working with oil on canvas but I'll pretty much use whatever I can get my hands on to make a mark. I have had many art shows in Southern California (USA) in LA, Hollywood, Long Beach, San Pedro, Torrance and Redondo Beach.

I put together a 100 page book of my art work on MyPublisher.com that covers a wide range of mediums and subject matters (including surf art) over the last ten years. To see more check it  out by clicking here:

In The Art of Eric J. Cedeno

On the path of personal exploration artists, chefs and musicians have been known to sample from others in creating their own signature style. It is in the adventure of their senses, the experience of sight, sound, taste, feel, & smell that they rework and refine their technique and interpretation into their style. Whether they step into or out of the shadows, bold in their choices or subtle, loud or mellow, sweet or savory, these are the choices all artists make. This book explores the artistic choices of Eric J. Cedeno.

I've completed over 200 paintings since 1994. I still have a stash of them hanging around and I wish I  had move wall space to keep them. Each painting has a story behind it and I haven't made up my mind on which of these I will keep. Who knows, one of these painting could soon be yours…

I'll add more information about each painting as time permits. Check it out:
